As we say goodbye to Women’s History Month, we wanted to chat with Elodie. She’s a true OCH Champion!

She serves on the Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Champions Table and as a member of the Anti-Racism/Black, Indigenous and People of Colour Employee Resource Group.

Elodie joined the OCH team in 2020 after moving to Canada from Burundi in 2017. She’s held a few positions, such as a Housing Administrator, and now works as a Rental Coordinator.

“I knew about the mission before I knew about the Corporation. Coming from a third-world country, the concept of providing housing to the vulnerable was beyond my imagination,” she said. “I was fascinated and wanted to be a part of it. I looked for volunteering before I thought of applying for a job.”

Whichever position Elodie is in, she said her favourite thing is the spirit of teamwork and resilience she sees in her colleagues.

We all know there is no “typical day” at OCH. Elodie said each day is different, but she gets the job done, making an impact one home at a time.

Part of the Rental Coordinator’s work is connecting with other departments, such as the turnover team, pest management, maintenance and the landscape team. “I find so much support and friendships grow effortlessly,” Elodie said. “I can never say enough about how lucky I have been thus far.”

We asked Elodie what advice she had for other women joining the Corporation.

She said she would encourage women to apply because we need them, and they bring so much value to OCH’s work.

“I have experienced at OCH the best side of women in the workplace, from having Managers that are women to working with women, mostly or exclusively as a department; I found the greatest support and I have and keep on being inspired,” Elodie said.
