CSS On the Beat: Meet Natalie

Natalie has always been passionate about helping others. From a young age, she knew she wanted to support and protect her community.
She was drawn to OCH because of the Corporation’s values and commitment to positively impacting tenants’ lives.
“The organization’s focus on community-building and its proactive approach to improving housing and support services made it the perfect place for me to grow personally and professionally,” she said. “I’m proud to be part of a team that genuinely cares about making a difference in the lives of those we serve.”
What does a typical day look like for Natalie?
Natalie starts her day by wearing a uniform and getting her car ready. Once on the road, she answers various service calls, from urgent matters to routine inquiries. Much of her day is spent working on reports, documenting everything to ensure proper follow-up. She also collaborates with staff from other OCH departments and external partners that offer programming in our communities.
Community Safety Workers manage a high volume of calls across large coverage areas, often with limited staff available on each shift. This can sometimes lead to delays and frustration for tenants and staff. Relying on strong partnerships and innovative programs like virtual patrolling is one way the team deals with these challenges.
“Working shift work presents its own set of challenges,” Natalie said. “But it’s part of the job, and I’ve learned to adapt to ensure I’m still providing top-notch service.”
We asked Natalie to tell us about her favourite part of the job.
“My favorite part of the job is working directly in the community,” she said.
“Every day brings an opportunity to support tenants, listen to their concerns, and make a positive impact.”
Community Safety Workers are often the first point of contact in many situations, so the team must handle calls quickly and carefully. Once CSWs respond, they document everything and work with Property Managers and Tenancy Support Workers to coordinate follow-up support so that tenants receive the help and resources they need as quickly as possible.
When Natalie isn’t at OCH, what does she like to do?
She loves sports and staying active. She runs and plays soccer and hockey.
“It’s a great way for me to stay fit and blow off steam, and I find it helps me stay focused and energized for the work I do every day,” she said.
