OCH applauds government commitment to housing strategy

Feb. 28, 2018 – Ottawa Community Housing Corporation applauds the federal government for the continued commitment to the National Housing Strategy.

The 2018 budget commits to building 100,000 new housing units nationwide and repairing another 300,000. That commitment to a sustainable, affordable housing strategy helps to provide a roadmap to organizations like OCH and provides confidence to those working in the affordable housing sector that they will receive much-needed support.

OCH also applauds the commitment to reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples. As the city’s largest social housing provider, Ottawa Community Housing remains committed to serving its diverse tenant base.

It is a budget that looks to the future, with an eye to conservation efforts – providing $1.3 billion over five years to protect land, water and species at risk and $109 million to implement the carbon tax regime.

Our Eco2Plan also looks to the future, with a suite of new builds and renovations that includes 33 solar panel projects and our new build at 811 Gladstone, which we aim to be net-zero certified.
