August 22, 2019 (OTTAWA, ON) – This morning, Chandra Arya, Member of Parliament for Nepean, visited Ottawa Community Housing (OCHC) head office at 39 Auriga Dr. to meet with Chief Executive Officer, Stéphane Giguère and present certificates to celebrate students employed through Canada Summer Jobs Program that live or work in his riding.

These placements are made possible, in part, thanks to funding from the Government of Canada. The Program provides wage subsidies for not-for-profit organizations, public-sector employers and small businesses.  For the 2019 year, OCHC received $129,360 in funding that helped hire 37 students in a range of departments.

Quotes:

The Canada Summer Jobs program is important because it helps students meet the requirements of their studies. OCH has always been a great partner with us on this, providing students from Algonquin College, Carleton University and the University of Ottawa with great opportunities.

– Chandra Arya, Member of Parliament, Nepean

The Canada Summer Jobs Program is a wonderful tool that allows OCHC to help students gain valuable real-life workplace experience. Students are employed in departments across the Corporation and do valuable work that helps improve the lives of tenants. As an organization with a culture of continuous improvement, we strive to learn as much from them as they do from us.

– Stéphane Giguère, CEO, OCHC

It’s a win-win situation. Students gain work experience and OCHC is able to tap into the creativity of tomorrow’s leaders.

– Mathieu Fleury, Rideau-Vanier Councillor and OCHC Board Chair’
