Bag it! Get Yellow Bags for Extra Garbage
Share this story
We know the City of Ottawa’s new three-bag garbage limit might take some getting used to, and we’re here to help.
If you have more garbage than the limit, yellow bags are the only way to ensure your extra trash gets picked up.
Taking care of your garbage helps keep the community clean. When garbage is left out, OCH has to spend money on cleanup. That money could go toward improving the community for everyone.
What is the three-bag limit?
The City of Ottawa now limits how much garbage can be put at the curb on garbage day. You can put out three bags or three 140-litre bins (like the picture below.) This new rule helps reduce waste and saves space in landfills so that our children and grandchildren have somewhere to put their garbage.
Who does it apply to?
This rule applies to any OCH tenant who puts their bins at the curb on garbage day.
Need to put out more garbage?
You can buy yellow bags! These special city-branded bags will be picked up on garbage day, just like your regular garbage bags.
A package of four yellow bags costs $17.60 (that is $4.40 per bag).
Where to buy yellow bags?
City-branded yellow bags are sold at City Client Service Centres Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 4:30 p.m., at the following locations:
- Laurier Service Centre: 101 Laurier Avenue West
- Nepean Client Service Centre: 101 Centrepointe Drive
- Orléans Client Service Centre: 255 Centrum Boulevard
You can also find the bags at recreation and community centres and Home Hardware stores across the city.
By following the three-bag limit and using yellow bags for extra garbage, you’re helping to keep your home and community clean and comfortable.
